What If The Lotus Tuber Doesn’t Fit The Pot

The red lines on all the pictures to right and below, show where you are supposed to make your cuts for making the lotus fit in a smaller container.  Use a very sharp knife (careful don’t cut yourself).  The piece in between the red lines go ahead and discard, since nothing will grow from that piece.  Only cut the lotus tuber if you absolutely have to since some of the  food for getting the tuber started is in the section you are discarding.  This is the reason you leave 1 or two inches from the joint, since there is food in that area.

Rounded Rectangular Callout: As you can see this tuber is over a foot long, You can cut the tuber where I am showing the red line, and discard the piece on the left, since there is no sign of a growing tip coming out of that section.  
Rounded Rectangular Callout:  In the picture on the right, you can see once you cut the section with the growing tips away from the section in the center, you will have two pieces that have growing tips, that can be planted in two separate pots.
