If you are planning on collecting seeds from your lotus, iris and marginal plants, the best time to do this is before the seed pods burst. Once they fall into the water it will be very hard to gather them. If the seed pods are getting brown and dry, remove from the plant before they burst. In some cases for example like the Louisiana Iris, Lotus and most margin plants, it is best to collect the seeds when the stock of the seed pod is starting to turn brown. Hang them upside down and rubber band a paper bag or large envelope around the seed pod. When the seed pod bursts the seeds will fall into the bag. It is best to use paper for these seeds, We do not recommend using plastic bags, this may create to0 much moisture and you want to keep the seeds dry until time to plant them. |

This time of year is the best time to collect seeds, because everything is bloomed out and the seeds are getting mature. By collecting seeds you can increase your water plant collection. There is also the chance that you could collect a seed that would produce an unusual color. |
