Rectangular Callout: If the algae reaches the blooming stage like this it gets harder to deal with. At this point it grows very fast and it will begin to shock the lily. It may not kill the lily but it will stunt the growth of the lily by shading the lily and blocking the sun. An easy way I found to remove the algae, is with a small rake that I purchased from a home and garden place, the rake is half of the size of a normal rake for about $1.50. I use the rake to hook the algae and lift it slowly out of the pond. I recommend a plastic rake so it will not damage the leaves and flower buds .
Rectangular Callout: Algae begins to grow as soon as water begins to worm up

In the picture above and below note how the algae is close to the crown of the plants. The reason  this happens is because the crown is darker ,almost brown  in color , than the rest of surrounding area  thus it absorbs more sun. It is 5 to 7 degrees warmer,  and the algae is growing faster then the lily. The leaves of the lily are small so is not shading the crown, this is why the  algae is growing faster.

The best way to remedy this problem is by physically removing  the algae by pulling gently and   slowly it will come out in long strands.

The pictures below I am showing you what happens when chemicals are used for algae

IT WILL HARM ANY PLANT THAT FEEDS OF THE WATER

Left and right pictures shows the crown of a lily that came out of the pot and was feeding off the water. The roots were not protected with the soil  so the crown just  rotted away.

Left and right pictures show leaves curling under and submerging their edges. This is happening because the  water contains    chemicals. Note there is a film on the surface of the water

Left and right pictures show hyacinth  leaves drying and the plant shedding their roots, which causes the plant to become weak and stop growing, due to chemicals in the water.

Text Box: Picture on the right shows duckweed exposed to a very small dose of algae killer it turned white over night .
The simple question every one should ask is, will you guarantee that this product I am purchasing will not harm my plants .
